Kondhwa-Kausarbaug connecting road riddled with potholes
A number of incidents of two-wheeler riders and cyclists falling into ditches and potholes, chronic tyre punctures and other serious issues, including accidents, are being regularly reported by the residents. However, PMC road department is yet to act upon the complaints from the residents.
Thousands of Kondhwa and Kausarbaug residents are facing a tough time for over a year; ever since the Kondhwa-Kausarbaug road was dug up by the municipal corporation for laying fibre ducts and other public work. However, residents and commuters allege that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) road department has left the road repair work unattended and has paid no attention to their pleas.

Senior citizen Hamid Memon, who has been following up the issue with the civic body, expressed helplessness over the customer service department of the PMC. “ Whenever we lodge a complaint regarding bad roads, they issue a token stating that the matter is being looked into and will be addressed shortly. The next day, we get another token stating your issue has been resolved. This is daylight cheating of residents by the PMC which has no feelings for the residents,” he said.
Memon further added, “Kondhwa road is in very bad shape and has potholes spread all over. There is mud lying on the roadsides which is a serious problem for two-wheeler riders. To add to this, there is garbage strewn along the roadsides. PMC’s inaction is causing a major inconvenience to the area residents and the road department must take steps to construct a proper road for the tax-paying residents,” he said.
Ayaz Shaikh, another resident who has approached the PMC a number of times over the issues, alleged that PMC has abdicated its responsibility of protecting the lives of the area residents. “Residents are falling off their bikes and the PMC is not moved by their plight. We demand road construction and repair work to start before the onset of monsoon and ensure that it is completed at the earliest,” he said.
Mukta Tilak, Pune mayor, said that standing instructions had been issued for the construction and repair of all the roads before the monsoon season with the view of not causing any inconvenience to residents. “The residents can approach me directly with their problems and I will personally resolve them,” she said.
