Metro projects get Rs3,000 crore less than previous year

Finance minister Arun Jaitley has brought down the budget allocation for various Metro rail projects in the city by almost Rs3,000 crore for the year 2018-19 as compared to pervious year 2017-18, during his budget presented on Thursday.
The Central government had made the allocation for all the Metro projects in the country worth Rs18,000 crore during 2017-18 . The allocation during this year’s budget was brought down to Rs15,000 crore although the government did not provide bifurcation of city wise allocation. During 2016-17, the Central government had kept Rs15,326 crore for all Metro projects.
With the Metro project work progressing fast, the Pune Metro project was expecting a budgetary provision of Rs1,500 crore in the central government’s Union budget. Last year was the first time Pune Metro appeared in the ongoing fiscal after work began in May 2017. The Central and state governments had approved Rs700 crore for the Pune Metro project in 2017-18. Of the total amount, Rs582 crore was released for the Pune Metro project.
Regarding the budget provision for Pune Metro, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) managing director Brijesh Dixit said, “Maha-Metro has not been able to get the city wise allocation yet. At present, it seems there is a total allocation for all metro projects in the budget.”
The provision is made for equality, loans and pass through assistance to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation, Chennai Metro Rail Corporation, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, Jaipur Metro Rail, Kochi Metro Rail Corporation, Vizag Metro Rail Corporation, Vijaywada Metrorail Corporation, Ahmedabad Metro Rail Corporation, Lucknow Metrorail Corporation, Nagpur Metrorail Corporation, Pune Metro Rail Corporation and Noida as well as other metro rail projects.
