Three girls were rescued from prostitution after a racket running under the garb of massage centre was busted by the sleuths of the Dattawadi police station on Friday afternoon in Sarasbaug.
Police arrested two persons, including a woman, in this regard and charged them under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The girls rescued in the raid were from Nashik, Aurangabad and Uttar Pradesh.
Those arrested were identified as Mona Singh, 32, a native of Antop Hill in Mumbai who was currently staying at Yerawada and Sunil Rathod, 22, a native of Dhule who was residing in a lodge near Swargate bus stand.
Singh, the kingpin of the prostitution racket, was running it under the garb of Lemon Aqua Spa and Salon Massage centre behind hotel Vishwa near Sarasbaug. She had rented the place and appointed Rathod as the manager of massage centre, said police officials.
Devidas Gheware, police inspector, Dattawadi police station, said, “We received a tip off on Friday after which we raided the massage centre. Prima facie it seems that they were running the prostitution racket at the massage centre since the last four months. Singh also has rented a flat at Surakshanagar Society in Yerawada where she used to stay along with the three rescued girls.
“We are also going to check the flat, if it was also used for the activities related to prostitution,” added Gheware.
Police has registered a case under Section 370 (trafficking in persons) of the India Penal code against both the accused.
