A case of rape, child sexual abuse and abetment to suicide was registered against a 23-year-old man, days after a 14-year-old girl committed suicide in the area under Bhosari police jurisdiction.
Prashant Balu Mhaske (23), was booked under Sections 376, 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 4 of Prevention of Children Against Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, 2012. The complaint was filed by the father of the deceased girl who was studying in Class 12 at a local college. Police sub inspector RN Patil and assistant police inspector (API) Namrata Davare of Bhosari police station are investigating the case.
"Prashant is the son of the complainant's son. Their families are well known to each other. The complainant has filed his complaints. Whether they had a sexual relation or not is a matter of investigation. We will make arrests after thorough investigation," PSI Patil said.
The two knew each other for at least last eight months and Mhaske had developed a sexual relation with the teen, according to the police. The girl had committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence on October 3 in Fugewadi area, according to the police.
While the police were looking into the reason for the drastic step taken by the college-going teenager, the investigation led the police to believe that Mhaske was in a relationship with her, according to the police.
If seen having a conversation with the boys from her college, Mhaske used to question her, according to the police. When the girl asked Mhaske to marry her, he refused to do so, according to the complaint. That is what led the teenager to commit suicide, according to the police.
