Speeding PMPML bus kills 24-year-old in Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad
In retaliation to the accident, angry residents and bystanders pelted stones at the bus, including at the driver’s cabin.
A 24-year-old was killed after being run over by a speeding Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus at Nashik Phata flyover in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Thursday around 10:30 pm. The victim, identified as Shahed Alam, was crossing the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) track when the incident occurred.
In retaliation to the accident, angry residents and bystanders pelted stones at the bus, including at the driver’s cabin. Window panes of the bus were damaged as a result, according to police officials.
The driver, identified as Shashikant Balkrushna Vasale, has been taken into police custody. He has been charged for indulging in rash and negligent driving.
According to the police, the PMPML bus with the vehicle registration number - MH 12 KQ 0936, was on its way to Bhosari from Hinjewadi when the accident took place. He was rushed to a private hospital for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning.
A resident of a labour camp, Alam is survived by his mother and four sisters. He was the sole bread winner of the family.
