A jilted stalker carried out an explosion near the house of his love interest, who is a minor, in Dhayari during the wee hours of Wednesday. Police arrested the accused and his friend on Friday for carrying out the explosion using the powder used in firecrackers.

The arrested men were identified as Kishore Modak, 20, and his friend Rajabhau Somvanshi, 24, both residents of Saswad road.

Modak, a one-sided lover, came in contact with the 16-year-old minor girl during his visits to his aunt’s place in Dhayari. The girl was a friend of his cousin’s sister. Modak also used to talk to her on phone and developed feelings for her. However, when the girl rejected his advances, he got irked and decided to teach her a lesson.

Sardar Patil, police inspector, Sinhgad road police station, said, “After his advances were rejected, he conspired along with his friend Somvansi to organise an explosion near her house. He made a bomb using the powder used in firecrackers. He filled the powder inside a big match and then tied it with a rope, before sealing it with M-seal. He also attached a ball-bearing to it.”

Patil informed that after the explosion took place on Wednesday morning at around 3 am, the whole neighbourhood was in panic. Rumors were strife that a bomb explosion took place in the area.

Police has registered a case under Section 286 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
