U-14 national ranking tennis: Pune players bring home titles
City-based tennis players – Manas Dhamne and Ruma Gaikaiwari showed their class to lift respective titles
City-based tennis players – Manas Dhamne and Ruma Gaikaiwari showed their class to lift respective titles at the MSLTA Yonex Sunrise Hotel Ravine under-14 national ranking tennis tournament at Ravine Hotel courts in Panchgani on Saturday.
Dhamne, Class 6 student of Bishop’s School, defeated eighth-seeded Skandha Rao of Karnataka 6-2, 6-1 to claim the title.
Dhamne trains at Adar Poonawalla Maharashtra Tennis Academy under coach Kedar Shah.
It turned out to be double delight for Dhamne as partnering with Aryan Shah of Gujarat, the duo claimed the boys’ doubles title defeating Karnataka duo Adith Amarnath and Skandha Rao 7-5, 7-5.
Among girls, Gaikaiwari outplayed city mate Madhurima Sawant 6-2, 6-4 to lift the title. Gaikaiwari practices at the Maestro Tennis Academy under coach Pranav Velankar.
The girls’ doubles title went to Saumya Ronde of Telangana and Ridhi Choudhari of Andhra Pradesh. The duo edged past Pari Chavan and Kaira Chetnani 0-6, 7-5, (10-6) of Maharashtra.
The singles winner’s got a trophy, certificate and 50 All India Tennis Association (AITA) points and runner up received a trophy, certificate and 40 AITA points.
