21-year-old posing as police inspector held in Tarn Taran

Police said the accused used to dupe people on the pretext of having good relations with top police officers.

A 21-year-old youth posing as a police inspector was arrested at Bhikhiwind in Patti sub-division of the district, police said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Money Singh (21) of Kairon village, posed as Punjab Police inspector at the office of Bhikhiwind deputy superintendent of police (DSP) on Saturday.

Police said the accused used to dupe people on the pretext of having good relations with top police officers.

In a complaint to the police, DSP’s reader head constable Gurdeep Singh said, “On Saturday, a man dressed as an inspector of Punjab Police came in the office and asked me to let him meet the DSP.”

“When I asked for his identity card, he showed me one and told me that he had been deployed here for arresting 10 people,” he said. He stated, “I questioned him in a subtle manner. After some time, I came to know that he is a fake inspector and has been duping people on the pretext of getting their work done.”

Bhikhiwind SHO Kashmir Singh said, “After receiving information about the accused, we arrested him from the DSP’s office.”A case has been registered.

A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 419 (cheating by personating) and 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent).
