Body of a 25-year-old mother of two was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her Sector 8 home in Chandigarh on Monday, police have said.

She was living in the servant quarters of a bungalow and a call was made in the morning informing police that “Deepa” had committed suicide.

Her husband works in an acupressure institute in Sector 43.

According to the Sector 3 station house officer (SHO) Poonam Dilawari, “The child of the deceased raised an alarm after he saw his mother hanging, following which the neighbours informed the police. She was rushed to the hospital but was declared brought dead by the doctors.”

Dilawari also said that the deceased, who belonged to Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh, was undergoing treatment at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) as she was mentally disturbed.

She is survived by two children. The younger one is a few months old and the older one, a boy, is eight years old.

No suicide note has been found and the police will proceed further with investigations once her family reaches Chandigarh from Hardoi, Dilawari said.

No foul play was suspected, she added.
