48-year-old stepfather rapes minor in Patiala

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her stepfather in Patiala.The accused has been identified as 48-year-old Darshan Singh, who was living at the victim’s house for past one year.
The incident came to light a few days ago when the girl complained of abdominal pain to her mother, said police. A complaint was lodged based on the statement of the victim’s mother, here on Wednesday.
Investigating officer, sub-inspector, Lahouri Gate police station, Gurnam Singh said that in her complaint, the victim said that the accused used to sexually assault her whenever she was alone at the house.
The victim, a Class-10 student, alleged that the accused used to rape her repeatedly in an inebriated state. The accused sexually assaulted the victim even on Tuesday after her brother had gone to their maternal grandparents’ home and her mother had left the house for some work, said police.
The accused had even threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone, police said.
A medical examination was conducted on the victim and the police are awaiting the reports.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. No arrest has been made so far as the accused is absconding. However, a police team has launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
Meanwhile, the police informed the district child welfare department about the incident.The welfare department is providing counselling and looking after the teenager.
