Superintendent of police (detective) Dilbag Singh Pannu briefed the media about the arrests. "The police trapped the suspects when they were on a bicycle, carrying opium in a bag," he said. "The men tried to flee on spotting the police," said Gurcharan Singh, station house officer of Bajakhana. "We seized 5-kilogram opium from them."

Suspects Kewal Krishan and Rajinder Singh, both from Ghaniawala village, now are charged under the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropis Substances (NDPS) Act. The police will present them in a court on Tuesday and seek their custody and transfer to the special interrogation centre in Amritsar.
