A total of 79% voters exercised their franchise for panchayat elections, which passed off peacefully barring a few minor incidents of voilence, in this border district on Wednesday.

Gurdaspur deputy comissioner said that Gurdaspur block witnessed 80% voting, Dina Nagar 85%, Dorangla 85%, Sri Hargobindpur 75%, Batala 71%, Kahnuwan 78%, Fatehgarh Churian 70%, Kalanaur 92%, Dera Baba Nanak 78%, Dhariwal 75% and Qadian block 80%.

Meanwhile, polling was suspended at Nawan Pind village in Batala block due to poll-related violence, while it was suspended at Megha village in Dera Baba Nanak due to some techical reasons.
