Shiromani Akali Dal Youth wing vice- president and Labour fed Punjab managing director Nazar Singh Shahpur on Monday alleged that rampant illegal minning was taking place in the district particularly in the constituency of a minister.
While talking to media persons at Kiratpur Sahib on Monday he alleged that the some political leaders were indulging in illegal minning after preparing fake bills of Himachal Pradesh firms in connivance with the minister and other officials of the minning department while it had become difficult for common man of the area to carry even a small quantity of sand and gravel in the tractor trollies for the construction of their houses.
He said although the minning department had set up three nakas for stopping the illegal minning in the district and deployed one minning guard and one policeman on duty round the clock at these nakas, but in reality these nakas had been set up just for an eye wash as general public was harassed there while the people with approach/contacts were not stopped from carrying illegally minned material in their vehicles.
Shahpur said on Sunday night he had himself seen 15 trucks and trailors loaded with illegally minned material and chased them.He had also informed the police stations heads of Nangal to Kurali and sent SMSes. However, no action was taken by the police against them.
He also alleged that policemen deployed at Information Collection Centres(ICC) near Punjab-Himachal Borders allowed the vehicles loaded with illegally mining material to go after taking bribe while staff at these barrier also put stamps on the fake bills of Himachal Pradesh firm.
He threatened to resign from his post if the government failed to check illegal minning in the constituency of the minister.
District mining officer Chaman Lal said necessary steps were being taken to check illegal minning regularly and many cases had been registered in this regard in the past one month of his tenure.
