In a case of mistaken identity, a 16-year-old student of Class 9 of a government school was stabbed to death by a boy of the same age near railway track in Suryanagar locality in Hisar on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Deepak Kumar, son of Ramjeet Singh, a worker of a private factory in Hisar. He was a student of the Government Senior Secondary School, Suryanagar.
Government Railway Police (GRP) SHO Amar Nath said: “Prima facie, it seems to be a case of mistaken identity. The accused was looking for another Deepak alias Deepu, also a resident of Suryanangar, who was in touch with a girl, a relative of the former. By mistake, he killed Deepu’s friend Deepak Kumar.”
He said, “A case of murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused. The accused is still at large. Police will arrest him soon.”
Meanwhile, some eyewitnesses told HT that two boys, later identified as Deepak Kumar and Deepak alias Deepu, were going along the railway track when another boy, carrying knife, suddenly appeared before them. “It was dark and the time was around 8pm. As the other boy came, we heard a voice ‘Bhaag Deepak’ and the two friends started running away from the railway track. Later, we heard a scream as the accused stabbed the victim and fled away,” they added.
“Deepak Kumar was stabbed in the chest. He walked a few steps and fell down on the ground. Some workers standing at the nearby liquor shop took the injured to a private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead,” they added.
