As school buses serve SAD Moga rally, parents face a torrid day ferrying kids to schools

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) launched its ‘Pani Bachao, Punjab Bachao’ rally on Thursday — on the SYL canal issue— on chief minister Parkash Singh Badal’s 90th birthday at Kilo Chahal village in Moga district. However, its trembles were felt in the city as traffic jams were witnessed outside schools as the school buses were directed by the government to go to Moga for ferrying political crowds. This left parents with no choice but to ferry their children to schools themselves, causing traffic chaos.

A few schools like DPS also decided to remain closed due to the direction. But with this move neither the school authorities were happy nor were the parents as the disturbance was faced by the both.

Huge rush was witnessed for hours outside DAV Public School at Lawrence Road as hundreds of vehicles were jammed in the narrow street outside the school.

A mother Reena Sharma who was there to pick her daughter said, “It is harassment for us as we have to leave our jobs and wait outside schools, then this jam is there past forty minutes and I am stuck in it.”

Some of the parents were also heard saying that it is not the first time that this has happened as earlier too, school vans have been engaged in political rallies.
