Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday described the SAD-BJP alliance’s victory in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation election as “historic” and said it will prove as a “trend-setter” for ensuring back to back victory for the alliance for the third consecutive term in the upcoming state assembly polls.

In a shot in the arm for Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), their alliance on Tuesday defeated Congress in the Chandigarh MC election in which demonetisation had emerged as a key issue.
In a statement issued here, Badal said the massive mandate in favour of “pro-people policies and solid performance” of BJP at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has silenced the opposition who had been unleashing “malicious propaganda to defame the government.”
Badal congratulated all the workers and leaders of the SAD-BJP alliance and said the collective will repeat the feat in the 2017 assembly polls.
