Chhotepur keeps all guessing on support in Gurdaspur

Aapna Punjab Party (APP) president Sucha Singh Chhotepur is keeping everyone guessing on whom his party will support in the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha byelection in the state.
“I do not have much interest in this byelection, as just about a year is left for the general parliamentary elections. I will hold a discussion with party leaders and supporters in Gurdaspur on (October) 4th or 5th to decide our strategy for this election,” said the APP leader.
Chhotepur said he may not give any call to his supporters, asking them to tell his supporters to cast their votes as per their choice. A former state unit convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he had contested the Lok Sabha election from Gurdaspur as the party’s candidate, finishing third, behind Vinod Khanna (BJP) and Partap Singh Bajwa (Congress), with 1.73 lakh votes.
However, he later fell out with the AAP’s top leadership and had a bitter parting just a few months before this year’s state assembly elections. The AAP has fielded Maj Gen Suresh Khajuria (retd) against Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar and BJP’s Swaran Salaria.
