Coming down heavily on Harinder Singh Chandumajra, managing director (MD) of the central cooperative bank, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) spokesperson Nimisha Mehta has lambasted the move of forcing the bank employees to don blue turbans.
"The move has nothing to do with changing the look of the bank. Rather it clearly underlines the vested interest of the MD in promoting the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)," said Nimisha Mehta.
"The MD has ordered the bank employees to don blue turbans and blazers instead of kurta pyjama. But just to remind the MD, kurta pyjama is the traditional wear of Punjabis. Is he ashamed of his own culture? Moreover, if he really wants to change the look of the bank, then Harinder Singh should first ask Sukhbir Singh Badal to stop wearing kurta pyjama and, instead, sport a corporate look," added the spokesperson.
"There are thousands of employees working in the bank and they are free to have different party ideologies. You cannot force them to wear the colour of your party. This is a clear and forceful "Akali-karan" by the MD at the behest of SAD.
In fact, this entire episode freshens up the memories of militancy days when terrorists used to force the people to don the saffron colour.
The congress spokesperson said Harinder is hell-bent to do "Akali-karan" of the bank employees so as to gain votes for his father and the party but he should know that Badals always field his father to "lose" the election.
Repeatedly, Chandumajra is given the party ticket from the particular seat which the SAD is sure of losing.
Now that Prem singh Chandumajra has lost so many times from Patiala and wants to change his constituency, Badals have again asked him to focus on Anandpur Sahib seat, which is again a Congress stronghold.
Nimisha said Junior Badal had publicly asked Harinder Singh to first change the colour of his yellow turban. I think it's high time since they (Chandumajras) start having some kind of self-respect," said Nimisha Mehta.
