Cops, protesters clash in Ajnala; DSP injured in stone pelting

A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was injured in a clash between Punjab cops and supporters of activist Surat Singh Khalsa at Ajnala on Sunday.

Khalsa, 75, has been on a no-solid-food strike since January 16 in Ludhiana demanding the release of Sikh prisoners. Khalsa’s supporters had gathered at a local gurudwara to take out a protest march to Amritsar.

However, the police reached the spot to prevent the protesters from holding a protest.An altercation ensued which later turned into a clash with Khalsa’s supporters hurling stones at the police party, leaving DSP Ajnala Tilak Raj injured. He was immediately rushed to hospital.
