With the MC elections scheduled for December, councillors are holding functions for ‘launch’ of projects that have just been ‘renovated or refurbished’. VIPs are invited to these functions where, on an average, more than Rs 1.5 lakh is spent on arrangements.

Starting April, four BJP-SAD councillors have splurged Rs 8 lakh of MC money on such functions.
On April 16, city mayor Arun Sood ‘inaugurated’ the green belt in Sector 10. It was an existing project, but area councillor Raj Bala Malik installed benches, fancy lights and railings at a cost of Rs 44 lakh and got it launched again.
On June 10, MP Kirron Kher inaugurated a sports stadium at Dadumajra where area councillor Sat Parkash Aggarwal had spent Rs 2.35 crore on renovation and held a ‘launch’.
On July 14, Kirron opened a green belt in Sector 42, where area councillor Hardeep Singh had installed play equipment and huts.
On September 3, Kirron again inaugurated a green belt in Sector 41 where councillor Hardeep Singh had installed play equipment, benches, huts and high-mast lights. On September 5, a park in Sector 15 was relaunched as Garden of Shadows. Area councillor Saurbah Joshi had constructed a footpath, huts etc.
