Elderly Chandigarh woman’s stolen ATM cards used to make Rs 63K payments

Her purse containing debit cards was stolen from car, ATM pins were mentioned on cards’ covers.

An elderly woman’s three debit cards were used to make Rs 63,000 payments after her purse was stolen from her car on Friday. The woman had mentioned the ATM pin on the cover of the cards.

A resident of Sector 22, Asha Rani, 61, said her purse was stolen from her car parked near the community centre in Sector 21. It contained three debit cards besides Rs 1,800.

Asha Rani said she had gone to the community centre to attend a function in the afternoon. The theft came to light in the evening when she along with her friend went to the market to buy Lohri items.

While making the payment, she realised her purse was missing.

Later, she got messages on her mobile phone regarding payments amounting to Rs 63,000 made using her debit cards. On her complaint, a case under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered in at the Sector-19 police station.
