Female doctor arrested for conducting abortions

Following a tip off, health officials on Sunday apprehended a private medical practitioner in Mahendragarh district for conducting illegal abortions. Dr Manju Chaudhary of Chaudhary Clinic at Narnaul was booked under Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act and the clinic was sealed.

Following a tip off, health officials on Sunday apprehended a private medical practitioner in Mahendragarh district for conducting illegal abortions.

Dr Manju Chaudhary of Chaudhary Clinic at Narnaul was booked under Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act and the clinic was sealed.

A health department spokesperson said on getting information, deputy commissioner Atul Kumar constituted a joint team of officials of district administration and health department.

Rohit Yadav was appointed duty magistrate for the raiding party which included Dr Ashok Kumar, Dr Arun Kalra, Dr Dharmesh Saini and Dr Vartika.

A day before the raid, the team sent a dummy customer who persuaded Dr Manju to conduct MTP in lieu of `10,000. The doctor allegedly scheduled Sunday for termination of the pregnancy.

The spokesperson said as per the plan a pregnant lady along with another woman reached Chaudhary Clinic and as Dr Chaudhary allegedly tried to insert the medicine for abortion, the woman accompanying the pregnant lady signaled the raiding party.

The duty magistrate and health officials caught the doctor red handed and also recovered currency of `10,000 marked by the team. After getting the information, the deputy commissioner and chief medical officer Dr Kanta Goel also reached the clinic.

The team also recovered medicine and equipment used in conducting abortions.
