Five killed, four injured in road mishap in Jalandhar

Five people were killed and four were injured in an accident near Arjanwal village on the Jalandhar-Adampur road on Saturday evening.

Reports said an orchestra group was going to Jalandhar from Hoshiarpur on their Toyota Qualis (PB 10 AN 2526).

Police said that when the car reached near Arjunwal, the driver tried to overtake a vehicle and collided with a bus (PB09Q 6600) belonging to Lovely Professional University.

The deceased have been identified as Rajesh Bhatti, his wife Chahat Bhatti, Jassi, Happy and Bharti, all orchestra group members, from Jalandhar.

Bus driver Kuldeep Singh and three students sustained minor injuries.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said after a police team rushed to the spot and took the injured to a local hospital.

He said investigation is on and a case will be registered after recording statements of the injured and eyewitnesses.
