A gang of fraudsters who duped people by posing as insurance agents was busted on Thursday.
The Patiala police arrested seven members including two women. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Hardial Singh Mann said all the arrested belonged to Delhi and cheated by giving out fake insurance policies of 'PNB Insurance Company'. They had also opened bank accounts to which people were asked to deposit the amount.
The arrested were identified as Pankaj Kumar Chauhan, Shankar Singh, Neeraj Kumar, Chetan Kumar, Bahadur Singh, Meenakashi, and Kajal.
One computer, 21 landline walkie-talkie sets were seized from them.
The SSP said that the accused were arrested on the basis of complaint by Pritam Lal of Sangrur. Lal said that in November 2013, a person named Sanchit Bhatia called him. Saying that his insurance policies were bearing losses, he and company general manager BS Brar convinced him to get a new policy through their company and had taken `9 lakh from him.
