To ensure better and timely serving of mid-day meal to students in government schools, the district administration has taken an initiative in which school authorities will have to send an SMS (short message service) after serving food to students.
This system, which will be linked to software that will be developed by the department in collaboration with National Informatics Centre (NIC), will also help in monitoring attendance time of the teachers. The administration and the district education department have already started work on this with collection of master data from schools. The collection of information and linking it to the specially developed software may take a month’s time.
Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Isha Kalia said, “This system will help in effective monitoring of schools. I got this idea from the Ludhiana MC commissioner Pradeep Kumar Aggarwal, who initiated the same scheme in Rupnagar district, when he was deputy commissioner there. It worked, and showed significant results.”“In this system, there will be a time limit to update the information and once the limit is over, no SMS could be sent.
So, if the time to reach school is 8 am, and the time limit for sending SMS is up to 8:10 am, no teacher can mark their presence after 8:10 am. Moreover, a report with complied attendance of the staff will also be sent by the school principal afterwards” Kalia explained.
District education officer, Gurjot Singh said, “In the SMS, the information on time of serving food and number of students who were served the meal will be sent. The information will be sent on a special format, that will be provided to the teachers and the information sent from every school will get uploaded on the website automatically. The work on collecting mobile numbers of teachers from various schools and other information is on. Training will be provided to the teachers before launching the scheme.”Isha Kalia said with this system they would get more information about the schools and the mid-day meal scheme.
