A physically challenged man committed suicide on Wednesday morning at around 11am by jumping off the fourth floor of Silver Arc mall here.
The deceased has been identified as Sandeep Kumar (33) of Anand Vihar of Chander Nagar of Ludhiana. Sandeep didn't have right arm.
The police found a suicide note from the pocket of the deceased, in which he had held the buyers of his property responsible for his taking the extreme step.
On the basis of the suicide note, the Division 5 police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Palwinder Jit Kaur, Davinder Singh, Dilbagh Singh and Tirlok Singh of Qadian in Gurdaspur district.
Hailing from Qadian in Gurdaspur district, Sandeep, along with his family, shifted base to Ludhiana in 2010. He used to sell incense sticks by roaming in the streets.
According to Division 5 SHO inspector Dharampal, deceased wife Kajal said that her husband was under stress for the past many days.
On Wednesday, Sandeep went to Silver Arc mall and made a phone call to his brother-in-law (sister's husband) and told him that he was committing suicide and disconnected the call. The brother-in-law informed Kajal about the Sandeep's call, who asked her brother Honey Verma to go the mall. By the time Honey reached the mall, Sandeep had already committed suicide.
Inspector Dharampal said, Sandeep owned a confectionary shop in Quadian. He had sold his property to Palwinder Jit Kaur, Davinder Singh, Dilbagh Singh and Tirlok Singh of Qadian of Gurdaspur. The accused had paid some amount in cash and issued cheques for `16.92 lakh against the balance amount. However the cheques were dishonoured by the bank. Later, the accused also managed to get the dishonoured cheques back from Sandeep and refused to pay a single penny to him.
“A case has been registered against the accused and the police will arrest them soon,” said the SHO.
The Mall management refused to comment on the issue. The police sent the body to civil hospital for postmortem.
