In wake of festive season, police up vigil in Sangrur

In wake of the festive season, Sangrur district police have beefed up security to avoid any untoward incident. On Saturday, the police set up special check posts across the district and challaned (fined) more than 200 persons for traffic violations.

In wake of the festive season, Sangrur district police have beefed up security to avoid any untoward incident. On Saturday, the police set up special check posts across the district and challaned (fined) more than 200 persons for traffic violations.

Senior superintendent of police Harcharan Singh Bhullar, along with other senior police officials, oversaw the drive. Also, the police claimed to have seized 16 cases of liquor and Rs 18 lakh of unaccounted money during the drive.

SSP Bhullar said more than 300 police personnel had been deployed at different check posts. He added the police also arrested three proclaimed offenders.

The SSP said that during the checking of vehicles, the police recovered 1.2 quintals of poppy husk and other narcotics such as smack, ganja and opium. The police also recovered 1,200 kg of spurious and adulterated sweets from different places.

"Special checking will be carried out in the coming days to keep check on the smuggling of drugs in the district," he said.
