Jalandhar: ‘Ultra modern’ Urban Estate Phase 2 still awaits good roads, streetlights
Even though it’s been nearly 16 years when the Urban Estate Phase 2 was carved by Punjab Infrastructure Development Authority (PUDA) promising ‘ultra modern’ facilities, the locals in the area still cry for basic amenities such as well-carpeted roads, functional streetlights and a clean environment.

Locals here said that they bought their properties at much higher rates than the then market price assuming that the facilities will be better and the purchase will prove profitable, but there have been no signs of development.
GARBAGE DUMP ON PLOT SITE
A plot that has turned into a garbage dump at the entry point of Urban Estate Phase 2 has become the biggest challenge for the residents here.
When Hindustan Times visited the site, some rickshaw pullers were throwing piles of garbage at the site while the stray dogs fed on the waste.
One of them also said that around 75 rickshaw pullers throw garbage at the place on daily basis.
The rickshaw puller added that the municipal corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) loads at least three trucks of garbage from the point daily.
Meanwhile, the residents complained that since the MCJ has taken charge, things have gone from ‘bad to worse’.
They resented that the unconstructed site is not a place to dump garbage and the municipal corporation.
The residents added that they have told their plight to municipal commissioner GS Khaira and mayor Sunil Jyoti many times but to no avail.
BAD ROADS, DYSFUNCTIONAL STREETLIGHTS
Another problem being faced by the residents are the big potholes on roads and dysfunctional streetlights which pose a threat to the commuters. Moreover, the situation worsens during the monsoon season.
Some businessmen of the area said that they have used their own resources and installed some light points for safety.
