Hundreds of people joined family members of 26-year-old Rimple Kannojiya, who was shot dead in Jalandhar on Thursday, to hold a protest at the local Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk on Friday afternoon and demand immediate arrest of the assailants.
Rimple was shot dead in Gujral Nagar on Thursday evening by car-borne assailants.
The protest led to a huge traffic jam on the GT Road and the traffic police had a tough time to control the traffic. The buses plying from Jalandhar to Kapurthala and Moga remained stranded on the road for about an hour.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-I) Jasbir Singh and assistant sub-inspector (ACP central) DD Sharma arrived on the spot and tried to pacify the agitators. They assured them to arrest all the accused in 24 hours, but the agitators refused to budge.
They threatened to stage a massive protest at PAP chowk if the police failed to arrest the accused till 6 pm on Friday.
The police have booked Gagan Singh Sidana, Babloo, Goldi and Amandeep Singh in the case.
