The deceased has been identified as Lakhvir Singh, they added.
Julkan station house officer (SHO) Harvinder Singh said the incident took place on Wednesday night after accused Harpal Singh, 65, entered into a heated argument with Lakhvir over a land-related dispute.
“He then attacked his father with a sharp-edged weapon, inflicting multiple wounds. The victim was rushed to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries,” he added.
The SHO said a case was registered against Harpal under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of the deceased’s grandson, while the accused continued to be at large.
As per police, the deceased had around 10 acres of land, which was divided into five shares and he had kept two acres with him.
“Harpal had been demanding his father’s share and that led to friction between the two,” the SHO said.
