MC has allocated Rs 27.5 crore for health and drainage and Rs 20 crore for prevention of malaria in and around the city.

The amount is much more than what was allotted to these two departments since the last two years.

In 2011-12: Rs 12.9 crore was allocated to health and drainage and Rs 10.7 crore for prevention of malaria whereas in 2012-13: Rs 12.5 crore was spent on health and drainage and Rs 12.5 crore for prevention of malaria.

However, MC is taking all precautions to solve the problems of lack of hygiene and blocked drainage to maintain the health of city residents by allocating sufficient amount required, at the right place.

Other problems that are being faced by the city residents includes: choked sewers during rainy season that results in waterlogging across the city.

The civic body has allocated Rs 30 crore for development of sewerage this year. However, the amount is much lower as it allocated Rs 50 crore to the concerned department last year.
It has also allocated a sum of Rs 15 crore for storm sewer which is Rs 5 crore less from last year's budget under the same head.

The maintenance of sewerage has been allocated Rs 15 crore that is 2 crore more than the sum allocated last year.

Chlorination of tubewells that has always been a controversial issue with reports saying that MC officials failed to chlorinate tubewells with the help of dozers has been allocated Rs 60 lakh that is Rs 10lakh less than the sum allocated last year.

The civic bodies' budget was passed on March 16 at the MC office.
