Meeting of lawyers' body held

A two-day meeting of the state unit of Adhivakta Parishad concluded in Shimla on Sunday. In a press release issued here, Rajesh Sharma, general secretary, Adhivakta Parishad, said discussions were held in detail on organising study circles, legal assistance and workshops at the meeting.

Baldev Mahajan, president, Adhivakta Parishad, was present at the meeting, he said.

Senior lawyers stressed upon the need for filing public interest litigations (PILs) in civil and criminal cases at the sub-divisional and district level as well, Sharma said. Discussions were also held on judicial reforms, judicial accountability and electoral reforms, he added.

Sharma further said the Communal Violence Bill, 2013, was also taken up during the meeting. Special focus was laid on the participation of young women lawyers in the activities of the Adhivakta Parishad in the state, he said, adding that there were 14 sessions divisions in Himachal of which the parishad had units in eight sessions divisions.
