Not applying for regularisation may attract penal action
With not many people turning up to apply for the regularisation of unauthorised colonies, plots and buildings in the grace period provided by state government, the civic body authorities are now contemplating to take penal action against the parties concerned if they failed to apply for regularisation within the deadline.

Even as only two days are left for applying under the policy, all the efforts by the administration to convince the people to opt for regularisation are proving futile.
As per the records maintained by the authorities engaged in the work, only four colonisers and 482 plot and building owners have applied in the city on Wednesday. In all, only 21 colonisers out of total 65 and 2,624 plot and building owners out of about 7,000 have applied under the policy till date.
Commissioner, municipal corporation, Bathinda, Vipul Ujwal, said that they were doing their best to convince people to apply under the policy. "We had set up camps and are holding door-to-door visits to convince the people to come forward and apply. We can only reach to their door steps but the final decision to apply rests with them,"he said.
He said that the administration will be left with no other option but to opt for penal action against those who don't apply.
The state government with a purpose to give people extra time to apply under the policy had extended the last date to apply for regularisation of unauthorsied colonies, plots and buildings from October 7 to October 25.
Facts
Failing to apply for regularisation of unauthorised structures can invite registeration of an FIR under Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Rules (PAPR) 1995 and even the demolition of unauthorised structure. Besides this, there are provisions of disconnecting the water and power connections of such colony or building and no further sale of such properties will be allowed by the authorities.
