The trouble caused by heat has doubled for the residents, who are reeling under unscheduled power cuts and shortage of drinking water for the last three days.
On Monday night, many areas of the city, including Officer's Colony, Model Town area and Choti Baradari witnessed three to seven-hour power cuts, while on Tuesday, Punjabi University campus and Urban Estate areas suffered an unscheduled power cut for over five hours.
Even the water supply has been irregular in many areas, including posh colonies like Model Town, Gurbax Nagar, Focal Point Area, Arya Samaj Chowk and all three phases of the Urban Estate. "Leave aside the shortage, the water being supplied to residents in many areas is contaminated. Despite repeated complaints, authorities are not redressing our grievances," said Kamal Sharma, a resident of Arya Samaj Chowk.
Municipal corporation's assistant commissioner Najar Singh admitted that the water supply to many areas had been affected for the last few days because of continuous power cuts.
"As of now, there is no shortage of water. Because of low voltage or irregular supply, there has been a problem in pressure and residents staying on upper floors could be facing some problems," said Najar.
