With an eye on the 2014 parliamentary elections, Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday praised BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and slammed the Union government for its failure to check cross border terrorism.
He was speaking after the terrorist attacks in Jammu's Samba and Kathua districts in which four policemen and six army personnel were killed on Thursday.
Badal was in Kapurthala to address a public rally after laying the foundation stone of the railway over-bridge.
"People of the country are fed up with the Congress party. In the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar Congress has been almost eliminated. In Punjab too, Congress should forget about gaining power for the next 25 years. And now it is time to remove Congress from the Centre as well. Modi is here and it will be done in the 2014 parliamentary elections," Badal said.
"With the Modi-led NDA government in the Centre, Punjab will certainly benefit. Modi will act as a stimulus. Economy will grow and industry in the state would certainly get a boost. People in the country will see a complete change once Modi takes over as the Prime Minister," he added.
Sukhbir, in his speech, appealed to the people to vote for the party candidates in all the 13 seats of the state and highlighted the plans and schemes being implemented for public welfare in the state.
"People now vote for development. We have focussed on development and provided the people of state good governance and corruption free environment," Badal added.
