After sending his wife to prepare a cup of tea, a 50-year-old jeweller hanged self in his house in New Deep Nagar on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Amandeep Singh Kanda. He owned a jewellery shop in Subhash Nagar.

Manikaran Kanda, son of the deceased, said that on Thursday morning his parents were sitting in the room, when his father asked his mother to bring a cup of tea. When she left, his father hanged himself with the ceiling fan. When she returned with the tea, she was shocked to see her husband hanging.

Manikaran added that on hearing screams he rushed to the spot and took his father to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where he died.

He added that his father was depressed after he suffered loss in business after demonetisation. He has also availed loan for marriage of his daughter and failed to return it on time. The money lenders were pressurising him from past some time for the money. He suspected that it could be the reason behind extreme step taken by his father.
