A vacation plan ended in a tragedy for a Rahon-based family on Wednesday after its two members were killed in a bus-car collision near Barnala village on the Jalandhar-Chandigarh national highway.

The deceased have been identified as Akshay Sharma, 15, and Sahil Sharma, 15. The injured are Vinod Sharma, 42, Aruna Sharma,40, Ansh, 6, and Anjali, 11.

The family hails from Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh and had moved here some years ago. The children had planned to visit their ancestral village near Kangra during vacation.

Sources said Vinod was going to drop his family members in an Indica car at Nawanshahr bus stand from where they had to board a bus for Kangra.

When they reached Barnala village, Vinod suddenly lost control over the car that collided with a Jalandhar-bound private bus.

Akshay and Sahil, who had occupied the front seat, died on the spot. The injured were rushed to a private hospital.

Nawanshahr deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Mukhtiar Rai and station house officer Raj Kumar rushed to the spot. The SHO said bodies have been shifted to the civil hospital. Cops were yet to record statements of the injured.
