Villagers oppose acquisition of land for bypass

Residents of Udhowal, Bulanda and Pachharain villages have vehemently opposed the construction of a bypass on the Mehatpur -Parjian road. In their joint application of objections submitted to land acquisition officer -cum -SDM Jalandhar-1, they said that the notification for acquiring land for the bypass was issued at the behest of Baba Baldev Singh, sole trustee of Gobind Marg charitable trust Nawan Nanaksar Thath, Bulandpuri, who had purchased more than 300 acres of land on the left side of the road going from Mehatpur to Parjian.

They submitted that there is 66feet road from Mehatpur to Parjian, which was recently upgraded under Pardhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. The Punjab and Haryana high court had also stayed proceedings for acquiring land for the of bypass on the Mehatpur -Parjian road.

The government had acquired land measuring nine acres, two canals and four marlas in the villages and had issued a notification in July 2013.
