Baahubali: The Conclusion, SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus which is set to release on April 28, is likely to have a dubbed version in Kannada as well.

The pro-dubbing lobby in Karnataka, Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce (KAFCC) is trying hard to ensure that Baahubali 2 is dubbed in Kannada and released, a report in The Hindu said.

KAFCC is a parallel forum to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), which is opposed to dubbing of other language-films into Kannada.

Krishne Gowda, president, KAFCC, said he got in touch with KV Vijayendra Prasad, Baahubali’s scriptwriter and Rajamouli’s father, with the aim to release the film in Kannada.

“Mr. Prasad has promised to consider the proposal seriously,” he said.

Members of another organisation, Kannada Grahakara Okkoota (KGO), have requested people on social media to support their demand of having the dubbed version of the Bahubali sequel. KGO has been fighting a long legal battle to allow dubbing other language films in to Kannada. According to Gowda, over 40 films from other languages are in the process of getting dubbed and released in Karnataka.

It may be interesting to know that since 1962, Karnataka has had an unspoken ban on films being dubbed into Kannada. That rationale is being questioned now.

The long-standing ban on dubbed films ended only in July 2015 when the Competition Commission of India (CCI) stated that they found that the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), Karnataka Television Association (KTVA), and the Kannada Film Producers Association (KFPA), were responsible for keeping this anti-dubbing agreement in place, thus going against Section 3 of the Competition Act, 2002.
