Rajinikanth’s upcoming gangster drama Kaala has completed its principle shoot and is in its post-production phase. Starring Rajinikanth in the lead role of a slumlord-turned-gangster in Mumbai fighting for the rights of oppressed Tamilians, the film is being directed by Pa Ranjith.
The film will have a political angle, it was revealed by Ranjith. Speaking at a gathering in Madurai, Ranjith said that Kaala has political references, reports Mumbai Mirror.
Having political references in his films isn’t new to Pa Ranjith. Both his previous films, Madras and Kabali, have references to oppression of Dalits, one in Tamil society while the latter is the status of Tamils in Malaysia.
Kaala has been shot extensively in Mumbai and will have dialogues in Marathi as the story is set in the city. For some crucial scenes were canned at specially erected sets that looked like Mumbai slum Dharavi in Chennai. The film has been produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Studios and stars many Bollywood actors including Nana Patekar as a politician and Pankaj Tripathi as a cop. Kaala also features Huma Qureshi, Anjali Patil and Samuthirakani.
The film’s music is by Santosh Narayanan and it will hit the screens in April 2018.
