Actor Vibhawari Deshpande made her debut as a lyricist with Marathi film Chumbak

Vibhawari Deshpande has never shied away from experimenting and exploring new things. The Pune-based actor has time and again surprised us with her roles in films, scripts in theatre and television, and of late her web series stint in Sacred Games has gained her a lot of popularity. To add another feather to her hat, Vibhawari has now made her debut as a lyricist in films. Vibhawari’s first song as a commercial lyricist released recently and is pictured on Swanand Kirkire in the Marathi film Chumbak.

Sharing the story behind this new journey, Vibhawari shares, “It was a pleasant surprise. I have always been writing song for my plays. I have known Swanand for a really long time and he was aware of my writing skills. He had also spoken to Amar Mangrulkar (music composer) about me. When they were working on the music of this film, my name came up and I was more than happy to be a part of it.”

Vibhawari has written the lyrics of the promotional song of Chumbak. She adds that it was Swanand’s faith and belief in her work that got her this project. “I know I can write and I wasn’t nervous. However, there was a sense of responsibility especially because a national-award winner endorsed me. There were drafts and redoings, but that is required and I am glad it did,” adds the Harishchandrachi Factory (2009) actor.

The Tumhari Sulu (2017) actor adds that her mum, late Maneesha Dixit played a huge role in building her overall personality as an artiste. “I have been brought up in musical background. My mom was doctorate in Marathi poetry and avid a classical music listener and a student too. So, I absolutely know what good poetry is. I am also trained in classical music and have a good ear for music. I understand verse and rhythm. I may be still learning the craft but I understand it completely.”
