Second seeded Kyrgios blasted 16 aces to win the semi-final match over the Japanese rising star in 96 minutes. Nishioka, 20, had upset fourth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov in the second round 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
Kyrgios advances to his third ATP Tour final of his career where he will face top seed John Isner who defeated teenage wild card Reilly Opelka 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 6-2 in the other semi-final.
In one of the tallest ties in ATP men’s tennis history, the 6-foot10 Isner beat fellow American Opelka, who stands 6’11”.
Isner hammered 22 aces while the Opelka, 18, who is ranked 837 in the world, had 15 aces.
YINGYING TOPS KING
NANCHANG, CHINA: China’s Duan Yingying battled back from a set down to beat American Vania King 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the final of the Jiangxi Open on Sunday for her first career title.
It took Duan a little over two hours to secure the hard-fought victory over her sixth-seeded opponent. The home favorite served up eight aces on her way to the title. King was playing in her first final of the year and her first since 2013.
