In heartbreaking news, Liverpool and Portugese footballer, Diogo Jota, was involved in a fatal car crash, killing him and his brother Andre in the accident.
Diogo Jota, the Liverpool and Portuguese footballer, has tragically died in a car crash at the age of 28. Jota, who was in the car with his brother Andre Silva, unfortunately lost his life after losing control of the vehicle in the Spanish province of Zamora. Fresh details have emerged which claim that the Lamborghini, which Jota was driving, skidded off the road due to a tyre blow-out while overtaking another vehicle and then caught fire, reported the BBC.
Jota died about 00:40 local time, the Guardian Civil added. Jota played a big role in Liverpool winning the Premier League title last season and also participated in the Nations League, which Portugal won by defeating Spain in the final.

"The Portuguese Football Federation (FPT) and all of Portuguese football are completely devastated," said Pedro Proenca, head of the FPF.
"Much more than an amazing player, with almost 50 international appearances, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all team-mates and opponents, someone with an infectious joy and a reference in the community itself."
Diogo Jota's career
Diogo, hailing from Porto, kicked off his football career in the youth system of Gondomar before catching the eye of Portuguese club Pacos de Ferreira, joining them in 2013. Two years later, he was signed by Atletico Madrid before being immediately loaned to his home team, FC Porto. In 2017, he secured another season-long loan with Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, whom he joined on a permanent deal a year later.
Jota’s most impactful club years began in 2020 following his move to Liverpool, where he performed consistently and eventually emerged as a key figure in their triumphant 2024/25 title-winning campaign.
At 28, his clever movement, tireless work rate, and ability to deliver in clutch moments had made him one of Portugal’s most dependable forwards.
