James Milner celebrated his goal by doing Diogo Jota's famous PlayStation celebration.
Diogo Jota's recent death recently left the entire world shellshocked. Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, died in a car crash this summer. Jota's death also left his former and current teammates in a state of shock. Former Liverpool star James Milner scored against Manchester City on Sunday, and the midfielder dedicated his goal to Jota.

Liverpool retired Jota's jersey (no. 20) in his honor, and Milner took the number after it was vacated by teammate Carlos Baleba. Trailing 0-1, Brighton were awarded a penalty in the 66th minute after Nunes handled the ball. Milner stepped up and made it 1-1 from the spot, as he stared James Trafford down, and then sent his shot to the bottom-left corner. He celebrated his goal by doing Jota's famous PlayStation celebration.

Brighton didn't just settle for the draw and took on City after Milner's goal. They finally found their winner in the 89th minute as Rutter held up the ball and laid it off to Mitoma. The Japanese winger fed it to Gruda on the edge of the box, and had plenty of time, beating two defenders and then Trafford, before placing his shot into the bottom-left corner.
Jota signed for Liverpool in 2020 for a fee reported to be 41 million. He represented the English club in 182 games, scoring 65 goals over five seasons, and also winning the 2024-25 Premier League, one FA Cup and two EFL Cups. He also represented Portugal in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, two UEFA Euros and also won the Nations League in 2019 and 2025.
It was also Milner's first Brighton goal as they also got their first win of the 2025-26 Premier League season.
