Last-gasp Turan goal knocks Switzerland out
Turkey scored a stoppage time goal to beat Switzerland 2-1 on Wednesday and knock the co-hosts out of Euro 2008 with one match still to go.
Turkey scored with a strike from Arda Turan deep into four minutes of time added on to end Switzerland’s hopes in a match hampered by severe weather conditions.
Torrential rain reduced the pitch to a quagmire and the match was already something of a farce when Hakan Yakin put the Swiss ahead in the 32nd minute after the ball stopped dead in a puddle in the Turkish goalmouth.
Turkey came back and grabbed an equaliser through Semih Senturk in the 57th minute.
Portugal lead Group A with six points from Czech Republic and Turkey on three with the Swiss bottom with no points.
