Paris Olympics 2024, Day 13 Highlights: Neeraj Chopra managed to throw well over what he registered as his gold-medal winning throw in Tokyo but was denied a second consecutive top-spot finish by an all-time great performance from Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem. The Indian men's hockey team have given PR Sreejesh a fairytale finish to his career. The man whose journey in international hockey started around the time when India failed to qualify fior the Olympics for the first time in its history, ends his career with two consecutive Games medals. Aman Sehrawat, meanwhile, lost in the men's 57kg semi-final and will now fight for bronze.
Paris Olympics 2024, Day 13 Highlights: Neeraj Chopra threw 1.87m more than what he managed at the Tokyo Olympics but while he won gold there, it was silver for him in Paris with Arshad Nadeem making history for Pakistan. Nadeem managed an Olympic record throw of 92.97m and even crossed the 90m mark again with his final throw to take the gold medal. He is the first Pakistani athlete to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics. Earlier, PR Sreejesh's storied career had a fairytale ending as India won the men's hockey bronze medal for a second consecutive time. Sreejesh's career started around the time that India had failed to make it to the Beijing Olympics. Now, he signs off with a second consecutive medal at the Olympics. India beat Spain 2-1 and won bronze in Paris. This is the first time since 1972, effectively the last of the team's glory years at the Olympics, that they have won consecutive Games medals. Earlier, Aman Sehrawat flew into the semi-final of men's 57kg with back-to-back wins by technical superiority. However, he then got handed a defeat by technical superiority in the semi-final against Japan's Rei Higuchi and will now fight for bronze.
Sehrawat reigned supreme in his men's freestyle 57kg round of 16 bout against his Macedonian opponent Vladimir Egorov, winning 10-0. He then beat Albania's Zelimkhan Abakarov 11-0 and thus stormed into the semi-final. Meanwhile, Anshu Malik lost her women's 57kg round of 16 bout. It was later confirmed that she would not have a shot at bronze medal through repechage.
