Snake-bites kill more people than cyclones in Odisha, experts tell you why

Odisha government statistics between 2016 and 2019 show that of the total 6,228 deaths that took place due to various calamities, snakebite deaths alone accounted for 2,217 lives surpassing casualties due to cyclones, floods, lightning, fire accidents and boat tragedies.

Suspecting him to be police informer, Maoists kill businessman in Kandhamal

A group of armed ultras stormed Tingarpanga village and barged into the house of the businessman Kailash Digal, late on Saturday night. They dragged Digal out of his house at gunpoint and took him to the village outskirts, where he was shot dead.

To avoid Maoists, poll staff with EVMs walk 15 km through Odisha forest

After conducting successful polls in booth no. 12 of Barahala village under Phiringia tehsil of Kandhamal district on April 11, the polling team was readying itself to walk 15 kilometers through the forested route when they were told of the trap that awaited them.

Odisha DGP in-charge BK Sharma said polling supervisor Sanjukta Digal was shot dead near Barala village under Gochapada police limits when she and 4 others got down from their vehicle suspecting landmines were planted on the road ahead.
