Covid -19 probe: ED arrests Shiv Sena (UBT) functionary Suraj Chavan

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Suraj Chavan, a Shiv Sena party functionary, for his alleged involvement in a money-laundering case related to irregularities in the distribution of khichdi to migrant workers during the Covid-19 pandemic. Chavan is believed to be close to Aaditya Thackeray. The ED's investigation is part of a probe into the BMC's expenditure on Covid-19 contracts. The agency suspects that contractors supplied khichdi to the BMC at inflated rates with the help of certain civic officials. This is the first arrest made by the ED in the case.

Former sarpanch arrested in Raigad land forgery case

Former sarpanch of Korlai village, Prashant Misal, has been arrested on charges of cheating and forging land records of a nine-acre plot allegedly owned by the Uddhav Thackeray family. Misal had been on the run since the FIR was registered against him on February 23. The other accused got anticipatory bail, while Misal did not. The case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Memorial of Thackeray govt’s corruption being demolished: Somaiya

BMC began demolishing five illegal film studios in Mumbai's Madh-Marve area. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya called it the demolition of the "memorial of Thackeray government's corruption". The National Green Tribunal had deemed the structures illegal as they violated Coastal Regulation Zone rules. Somaiya accused Aaditya Thackeray and Aslam Shaikh of blessing the studios. The demolitions will continue for two days.

Five film studios to be demolished in Madh-Marve

In its order, the NGT stated they found the permission, which was granted in the present case by the BMC in conjunction with the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority, was only for setting up temporary structure for the purpose in question. However, the film studios had set up huge structures in which a lot of steel and concrete material was used.

Procedural lapses, but no misconduct, says BMC report on film studios

The inquiry report on alleged unauthorised film studios in Madh, Marve, Erangal, Batti and Malad prepared by deputy municipal commissioner Harshad Kale, which was approved by municipal chief Iqbal Singh Chahal in February, has concluded that there was no grave misconduct by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials in issuing the permissions
