Himachal: 3 Independent MLAs skip hearing before speaker

Speaker says three violated scheduled 10th of Constitution by joining BJP before acceptance of their resignation. Pathania had summoned Hamirpur MLA Ashish Sharma; Nalagarh MLA KL Thakur and Dehra MLA Hoshiyar Singh Thakur. The speaker had summoned them to hear their side on the petition filed by revenue minister Jagat Singh Negi.

Amidst the electioneering, the three Independent legislators who had joined the BJP, skipped the hearing before speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Saturday. The speaker has now fixed the case for the final hearing. (HT File)

Delay in accepting resignation: Himachal HC notice to speaker over 3 Independent MLAs’ plea

Three MLAs, Ashish Sharma, KL Thakur and Hoshiyar Singh had submitted their resignation to secretary, Vidhan Sabha, Yaspaul Sharma on March 22. The three later met speaker Kuldeep Pathania at his residence along with two BJP MLAs Janak Raj and Balbir Singh Verma. After that, they also met governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Raj Bhawan to inform him about his resignation

The Himachal Pradesh high court on Wednesday issued notices to the speaker, Vidhan Sabha, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, over the petition filed by three Independent legislators, Ashish Sharma, KL Thakur and Hoshiyar Singh challenging constitutional authority and delay caused in accepting their resignation. Speaker to give verdict on Shiv Sena MLAs’ disqualification on Jan 10

The fate of 53 MLAs, including the chief minister, from both factions of Shiv Sena will be decided on January 10 when the assembly speaker will pronounce his verdict on their disqualification. The order is expected to be over 400 pages and the speaker will read out the operative part addressing the six categories of conflict. The speaker is expected to consult the solicitor general to ensure the order complies with the directions of the apex court.
