JU’s anti-ragging committee report ‘generic’, lacks details: UGC

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has expressed dissatisfaction over the report sent by Jadavpur University on an alleged ragging incident that led to a student's death. The UGC has reprimanded the university for providing a "generic" report lacking specific details. The UGC has asked Jadavpur University to inform them if the provisions of UGC regulation on curbing ragging are implemented, and to prioritize the eradication of ragging. The UGC's follow-up is meant to send a message to all colleges to prioritize the eradication of ragging. The West Bengal police have arrested a total of 9 people in the case.

UGC releases updated draft for development of education institutes

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released an updated draft of guidelines for higher education institutions (HEIs) in India. The guidelines include recommendations for private sector partnerships to raise funds, a ranking system for faculty members, the creation of "emotional infrastructure," and an increase in undergraduate seats to generate higher revenues. The UGC aims to help universities and colleges plan for academic, administrative, and financial self-reliance through these guidelines.

The first draft IDP guidelines were released by the commission in January last year seeking suggestions from stakeholders.
